The largest town in the county of Carmarthenshire, Llanelli has a long and illustrious history. Llanelli grew quickly during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries with the advent of the coal, tinplate and steel industries, gaining the nickname ‘Tinopolis’ due to its significance. Llanelli was also a major centre for Welsh nonconformity, reflected in its religious architecture.
