Great Steam Trains: 6. Trains Racing North
It was madness. From the beginning of railways there had been competition between trains running on the east of Britain & those on the west. Both were trying to beat each other from London to Edinburgh. In August 1888, it developed into out-and-out races fuelled by papers eager to come up with gripping stories in the summer lull. The country became hooked.

Ym mis Awst 1888, datblygodd yn gystadleuaeth ffyrnig a daniwyd ymhellach gan y papurau newydd oedd yn creu straeon gafaelgar yn ystod cyfnod hesb yr haf. Hoeliwyd sylw’r cyhoedd ar y frwydr. It was madness. From the beginning of railways there had been competition between trains running on the east of Britain & those on the west.
