Mae Emilio a Gabby ill dau yn mynd ar deithiau i gwrdd â Doge Justino yn ei balas i ofyn iddo unioni’r cam yn eu tref fach Eidalaidd. Caiff Emilio help llaw y llusern hudolus, y Kalends, ac mae Gabby yn gallu galw am gymorth ffenics, aderyn tân gwyrthiol. Ond mae’r Doge ifanc dan fygythiad, a’i ddathliadau pen-blwydd yn ddeunaw yn troi’n gybolfa o beryglon, anhrefn a hudoliaeth.
Emilio and Gabby both go on journeys to meet the Doge of Justino in his palace to ask him to right the wrongs in their little Italian town. Emilio is aided by a magical lantern, the Kalends, Gabby can call upon the help of a phoenix, a miraculous fire-bird. But the young Doge is under threat and his eighteenth birthday turns into one of danger, mayhem and magic.
