The discovery in the 1970s of a number of boxes containing early glass plate negatives of Montgomery provided the impetus for this long overdue book. These plates formed the nucleus of the large collection of local pictures now housed in the Old Bell Museum,and many of them, together with the authors’ personal collection of photographs and other material, have been used in its production.
