Mae’n gwrthod y persbectif poblogaidd, ‘Diwedd Hanes’, gan fynnu perthnasedd theori Tocqueville ar y rhaniad rhwng Tsieina a’r Gorllewin.The book gives a new, ‘Eastern’ understanding of Tocqueville’s political thought, and uses it to interpret contemporary China. It rejects the popular ‘End of History’ perspective, insisting on the relevance of Tocqueville’s theory on the divide between China and the West.
